The home of student involvement at the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering

The Benton Engineering Council was founded in 1910, the same year as the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering. Today BEC is home to 55+ student organizations, making it the largest umbrella organization on campus!

We strive to remove the barriers between our organizations and accomplishing their goals

From designing race cars to putting on workshops, to service and philanthropic events, BEC member organizations are engaged in producing wonderful services for the UF community. However, there are often barriers in the way to putting on those events and services. We seek to remove these barriers to enable our societies to accomplish their goals.

What we do

The Benton Engineering Council seeks to provide the following services to the students of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering


The BEC is the umbrella organization for all engineering organizations. The BEC is responsible for the budget, management, and allocations SG funding to 50+ funded engineering student organizations, at a total of approximately $90,000 per year.

We are the one-stop-shop for all your engineering involvement needs! BEC GBMs are a great place to meet representatives from all BEC orgs. The BEC seeks to connect engineering organizations and other university groups to develop programs and services.

The BEC supports Dance Maraton at UF, a philanthropic organization that benefits the Shands Children’s hospital. Several BEC organizations, including FLEG, SWE, and Theta Tau, have established a goal to raise $10,700 this year for Dance Maraton.

As an organization, the BEC maintains relations with SG Senate, the SG Executive Branch, the BOCC, ENG and university administration. As the largest ENG student org. on campus, BEC is uniquely positioned to advocate for engineering students.
